How come the gamified tutorials got discontinued?

In 2022, we released our highly anticipated Tutorial Island and Enchanted Forest which taught you how to use Gamify Your Life, Be Intentional, and L-CTRL in a gamified manner. It guided the user through all the different components with gamified quests that taught you the principles behind the component and how to use relevant Notion features. And as a bonus, the user would earn XP and gold to level up their character on completion.

Each quest and video took at least 10+ hours to produce, and with over 100 quests spanned over 20 modules, it really was a lot of work to make sure they were always updated.

Over time, we realized that maintaining the gamified tutorials inside Notion was really, really difficult. Notion continuously updates their UI, and the instructions and videos we made ends up being outdated - not because of the content, but rather because the user interface changed and the same buttons / interactions aren’t the same anymore.

The Solution

Where can I find the tutorials for each of my templates?

So, our solution in 2024 is to have the tutorials on this help center for every component. This has many long term benefits!

  1. We can communicate the first principles of each component separate from the Notion template.
  2. We’ll be able to make tweaks to our tutorials the moment that Notion updates their UI.
  3. We can keep adding new tutorials to show more custom use cases as our community members share.
