Overview

The goal of this course is to prepare Ph.D. students for future computer architecture research. Students will gain an overview of the current research topics of the computer architecture domain. Students are expected to read many high-quality papers, which will lay the foundation for their future research. Students will also have an opportunity to conduct hands-on research and get feedback from the instructor.

Presentations

We will spend a major amount of time in the lectures to allow students to give presentations. Each discussion session will include discussions about two papers. For each paper, we will spend 15min on a presentation followed by a 20min discussion.

Tips for Preparing Paper Presentations

Paper Review

In each discussion session, we will discuss two papers. You will need to write reviews for both papers. The due time is right before the discussion session. The review on each paper should include the summary of the paper, the strength, the weakness, and what you have learned from the paper (or how it is related to your research).

Final Project

We will summarize the semester with a final project. At most 2 students are allowed to form a team. If you work in a team, you are expected to complete more work.

A proposal is required. It should include a description of the project you want to work on and your team. The due time is March 19, 2021, 11:59 am Eastern Time. Each team should have a brief discussion with me about your final project plan before submitting the proposal.

Make sure you answer the following questions in your proposal

The final project report should be within 6 pages (except for citations). You are required to write the report using Latex and the IEEE conference template. You are encouraged to use overleaf.com to write the report. Citations should be managed using BibTeX.

The due time for the final project will be May 17, 2020, 11:59 am Eastern Time This is a firm deadline since the final grade deadline will be May 19. I will only have one day to grade it.
