The next step would be to find out:
The attitudes and literary habits of the Portuguese population towards reading. To facilitate this understanding, I have developed a survey aimed at delving into the dynamics of neighborly interactions within urban residential areas. This survey specifically focuses on evaluating the level of interest and identifying any potential barriers to sharing and accessing reading materials among residents. The survey is designed to require approximately 15 minutes to complete. In line with my commitment to privacy and ethical research standards, all personal data collected is treated with utmost confidentiality, adhering strictly to the General Data Protection Regulation to ensure the privacy and protection of our participants.
With the results, I was able to form an idea of the current scenario in Portugal:
The questionnaire was conducted online and promoted through social media platforms.

The survey was originally conducted in Portuguese, but you can take a look on the English version here↗︎.
What I concluded:
- The data suggests that while the majority of respondents have a positive inclination towards literary activities and are willing to lend or exchange books, there is still a gap in communication or interaction with their neighbors on literary topics. Encouraging community literary events can be an excellent strategy to promote interaction and the sharing of literary interests among community members.
- A significant portion of the community reads daily, suggesting that while there is a core group of avid readers, there is also room to engage other demographic groups that may not be as actively involved in reading practices.
- There is significant potential for the development of solutions that promote community interaction around literary culture in residential urban areas. Exploring initiatives such as community book clubs, book exchange platforms, local literary events, or even digital applications connecting readers in the same residential area could be beneficial. Such efforts would not only strengthen community bonds but also celebrate and promote the rich literary culture already present among its members.
