Applicants are assigned a member as a shepherd to be the friendly face they meet at dinner. This helps MemCo with their work load, and allows the applicant to have someone dedicated to guide them for their first dinner.
Process
- Receive Application
- MemCo will send a Slack message to #new-membership to find a volunteer shepherd
- MemCo will send a first email to confirm their dinner and CC the shepherd
- Shepherd should introduce themselves to the applicant and offer to answer any basic questions. Send an email describing the basics of the co-op. They are also encouraged to have a chat on the phone if the applicant has a lot of questions, or to send a link to the HAUS Recommendations page (page is public and read-only) if they're new to Houston.
- On the day of scheduled dinner, Shepherd will post in #new-membership channel a few details about the applicant so everyone can be sure to greet them.
- Shepherd will greet applicant when they arrive. Consider giving the applicant a phone number to text when they arrive so they aren't left waiting outside.
- Shepherd will introduce the applicant to the dinner group and help them get their dinner
- Shepherd will introduce an icebreaker topic (what would your superpower be? last thing you bought on amazon?). Shepherd will orient the table conversation to getting to know the applicant(s).
- At the end of dinner, Shepherd will help them clean their plate
- Shepherd will give a tour of open rooms
- Shepherd will accompany applicant to the door at the end of the tour
- MemCo will send a follow-up email to the applicant for a second dinner
