Sorry for that I have never written a post, but my project had iterations.
The core idea of my work has not changed, it is actually about disconnection and connection
The disconnection part represents my grandfather's memory loss caused by Alzheimer's disease, while the connection part represents his relatives and the things he has used. These relatives' memories and traces of life form a new grandfather, and this is what we call death not the end of life, but forgetting.
At first, my idea was to use a clock to represent the disconnection part, which represented time and memory. As the clock disintegrated, my grandfather's memory also began to dissipate. The Reconnection part places an acrylic disc in the center of the clock. After a critical interaction with the audience, the disc begins to fill in color and eventually turns into color, indicating that our interlocutors have given the patient a new identity.
But after IVI and show one thing, Sarah and Monika both gave me a lot of good advice, focusing on two points: firstly, the connection between the clock itself and my grandfather is not very strong, too broad, and cannot carry a lot of emotions. Secondly, there are interactive switches, and the current way of speaking to the clock is quite limited.
So I made another modification to the plan and went to the place where my grandfather used to live on site, discovering many old objects and traces of life.
Then I communicated with Sarah, Monika, and Fletcher again, and ultimately decided to replace the metaphor of the clock with the metaphor of the tree. Because I found a file that my grandfather had always used. When he was young, he was a carpenter, so in that poor era, he used these tools to gradually add furniture and bring food and clothing expenses to the family. I also found four chairs that my grandfather made himself (there should be five, but one of them was lost), and gave them to my grandparents and their three daughters (my mother and my two aunts). I think these are all narrative objects that can be used.
My current plan is to initially have a towering tree projected onto the wall with a projector, and then the tree slowly withers and leaves wither, symbolizing my grandfather's memory loss. Then there is a real device in front of it, with the file on it and four chairs sitting around it. When someone sits on it, the speed at which the tree withers slows down, And it will gradually grow new and different foundations, with four chairs showing different new foundations when sitting in each chair position.
I made a small demo as follows
