SUMMARY

Disorientation is one of the worst feelings in the world. When the unexpected comes and nocks us off track. The world we once knew feels foreign. We no longer know what direction to go. Our expectations are shattered.

In Elijah’s story we see him encounter this disorientation. After such a victory over the prophets of Baal, you would think Elijah would just have it made. But no things do not go as he expected and he spirals. He finds himself alone in the wilderness, and then God meets him. But not the way that he expected.

God wants to meet us in our own disorientation, and walk with us out of our wilderness. He wants to meet us in the middle of our story that isn’t turning out how we hoped and lead us to what’s next.

Lord, you are the God of those who wander the wildernesses. You are the God who sees me and my circumstances. I never thought I would find myself here. (Name your circumstances to God). The story I was hoping for my life was … (name your expectations).
