Upgrade your workspace (desktop only)
- Near the top of your sidebar, you'll see
Settings & Members
. Click on it to bring up your settings window. From there, click on Plans
(or Upgrade
if you're on a Free Plan).
- Click the
Upgrade
button under the plan you want.
- If you're upgrading from the free Personal Plan, a window will pop up to ask for your billing interval and payment information to get you started.

- Picking the yearly billing interval saves you 20%. The total cost of your plan will display in the bottom left-hand corner of this window. It's calculated based on how many members are in the workspace, if you have any credit to apply, etc.

- Pick your payment method. You can either pay with a debit or credit card, ACH (direct deposit), or wire transfer. Notion uses Stripe to process payments.

- Once we've processed your payment, you'll be moved to the
Billing
tab of your settings, where you'll see your plan summarized:

- If you upgrade or choose a more expensive plan in the middle of a billing interval, here's what will happen:
- You'll receive a bill at the end of the month (even if you're on a yearly plan), charging you a prorated amount based on how long you were using the upgraded version of Notion.
- This amount will be added to your standard payment for the month ahead (if you're paying monthly) or added to the revised amount for the rest of the year (if you're paying yearly).
- We determine "end of month" based on the day you signed up. So even if you're paying yearly, if you purchased your plan on June 17 and upgraded on June 23, you'd see the new charges on July 17.
- This can be complicated, we know 😅so please don't hesitate to reach out with questions!
Downgrade your workspace
Just like you can upgrade your workspace's plan at any time, you can also downgrade.
- Go to
Settings & Members
and click on Plans
in the sidebar of the new window.
- To choose a less expensive paid plan, click the
Downgrade
button under the plan you want to choose.
- When you downgrade to a free Personal Plan, your paid plan will be cancelled at the end of your billing interval. You'll be able to enjoy your paid features until then.
- When you downgrade to a less expensive paid plan, a few things will happen:
- At any time, you can see a summary of your billing information and make changes in the
Billing
tab of Settings & Members
. If you have more questions about how billing works, check out this comprehensive guide.
