This document seeks to lay out the organisational structure of the Oxford Blockchain Society's DAO. In doing so, we hope to initiate a self-sustaining community that serves to benefit the wider global Web 3 ecosystem by producing responsible contributors to the decentralised economy. In summary we will:
The blockchain industry is moving at rapid pace. As it continues to swell it risks leaving behind non-trivial volumes of talent and undercapitalising on both idea and resource allocation. Universities are unrivalled sources of information and talent. University blockchain societies should become the focal points of initiatives and stay in line with the industry, spring-boarding curious individuals and championing this technology to the fore of their university’s research agenda.
The University of Oxford has an extraordinary concentration of talent, with the graduate community being an especially rich and diverse talent pool. Alongside the prestige attached to the institution, there is an opportunity to direct resources and time to creating a self-sustaining ecosystem that furthers the adoption and development of blockchain technology. The overwhelming potential is that we can transcend what student societies are and are capable of.
Student clubs historically have a tendency to scope creep with committee members sitting in roles for CV-building and/or social signalling without getting much productive work done before their time at university is up and they move on to greener pasteurs. What we propose here is to initiate a community that is imbued with systems that bias for action. This requires an organisational structure and the appropriate decentralisation of decision making to ensure the sustainability of output which plays perfectly into the dynamism of DAOs.
This document will outline the end point of a transition phase towards the construction of the DAO. Another document detailing the preceding phases to the full deployment of the DAO described here will be published in due course.
Educate >>> Cultivate >>> Accelerate
