What’s the show about?

AI and I is an interview show where I talk to the smartest people in the world about how they use ChatGPT in their daily lives. We go through actionable strategies for using it as a tool to think, write, create, make decisions, and more. The show itself becomes a live exploration / journey between the guest and I—ChatGPT always surprises us, and we learn new things about ChatGPT, ourselves, and the world as we explore it together. In that way, ChatGPT is also a kind of co-host of the show.

The promise of the show is actionable ideas on how to use ChatGPT better, but underneath, it is actually an exploration of how using AI changes what it means to be a human / how we understand ourselves. It’s an optimistic and curious take—rather than one of doom and gloom—that we can live better lives with this new technology if we learn how to use it.

That’s the underlying double meaning of AI and I: it’s about how AI changes “I”—our conception of self.

What vibes are we going for?

Curiosity, wonder, authenticity, organic, technology, exploration, progress.

I’m really inspired by the 1970s in America. It was the decade of the moon landings and the first PC, so it was a time when technology felt optimistic and exciting. It incorporated the vibrancy and color of the 60s, but it had a more raw, authentic, organic quality to it. I’m inspired by shows, movies, music, and album covers of the time.

Here are a few:

Carl Sagan, Cosmos, 1980:

I know I said the 70s, but this came out in 1980, and I think it captures the aesthetic. It’s about science—but it’s not dry or technical. It captures the majesty of the universe as expressed through science, and it evokes wonder and grandeur. Sagan is a scientist, but he also communicates about it in a tone that’s both accessible and reverent. I love the intro music—it’s classical and haunting, but it also integrates space / future-elements like the synth arpeggios around 1:04 that sound futuristic. I also love the chunky font with bold stroke and colors here:

I also love that it’s called “A Personal Exploration”—I think this show is similar except it’s not individual it’s between me, the guest, and ChatGPT.

Willie Wonka, 1971

I love the vibrant color grading on this and the contrast between Wonka’s purple outfit and brown hat. I also love the song itself, the lyrics express the sense of wonder and curiosity that I’d like to evoke with this show:

“There is no life I know / To compare with pure imagination / Living there, you'll be freeIf you truly wish to be

If you want to view paradise / Simply look around and view it / Anything you want to, do it /Want to change the world? / There's nothing to it”
