ICS partnered with 326 people with disabilities on their path to independence last year. We did this through our Employment, Living Skills and Mental Health programs, where we work with clients to build careers, secure stable housing and build crucial life skills needed to become independent.
In addition to the technical skills that each of our training programs teaches, participants learn crucial skills for being a great employee, like proactive communication, time management, problem solving and accountability.
All of our job-training programs are paid and last 3-6 months. The programs include business management and horticulture, retail, production and administrative assistance.
Whether you love books, museums, hiking or Fantasy football, there is an ICS social club that is right up your alley. Every year we ask our clients what kinds of activities they'd love to see turned into a group, and that has led to clubs like theater and knitting. We want to be as comprehensive and inclusive as possible so that everyone feels like they have a safe place to make friends and build social skills.
Jeffrey, who attends College of Marin, recently achieved a huge goal: he was invited to be an officer in the school advocacy group called Students for Social Justice. It's an inclusive, democratic organization made up of College of Marin students promoting progressive change through economic, environmental and social justice.
"Being involved in this student led organization is very important to Jeffrey, and speaks very highly of his character and desire to help others." says Erik, his living skills trainer.
ICS partnered with Rafael to secure his job as a produce clerk at Sprouts. Rafael's goals are to be respected for his work ethic, receive a promotion and get a raise. He and his ICS job coach have been focusing on ways that he can help make the produce department look beautiful, and his hard work is paying off because sales are up in the produce department!
Rafael's dream job is to be a photographer. He's currently saving for a better camera and to take photography classes. “Don't matter how low we have been, what matters is how high we planning to get, in achieving excellency in anything that we do.”
Anthony is one of the rare and lucky people who is working his dream job. Anthony is working at Arcturus, a model airplane factory. And we're talking pretty big model planes! Anthony's hobby and passion is building model airplanes and their components, so it was a dream come true when ICS supported him in landing this job.
