1. Webinar vs Workshop
- In a webinar the audience tunes-in. Interactivity is low, similar to a talk.
- In a workshop the audience actively participates.
2. Scaling Workshop
- Kent limits his workshops to 40 attendees. This has two benefits:
- Participants can get their questions answered.
- Make up for not being in person by being engaged with people in small group settings.
3. Answering Questions
- Never answer questions specific to someone's specific situation. Until it gets to the breakout exercise time.
- For questions relevant to everyone, the chat is great but not ideal.
- If questions are irrelevant, send them to a separate AMA.
- Example: 🔗Kent's AMA
- The best approach is for attendees to interrupt using their microphones.
- Create pausing point for people to ask questions.
- Don't be afraid of silence. 5-10 seconds and wait.
4. Breakout Rooms
- Create Breakout Rooms in Zoom. These are useful for splitting a large group into smaller groups that can talk or collaborate.
- 📹 Video Breakout Rooms in Zoom
- The instructor visits each Breakout Room.
- The first time in a Breakout Room get everyone to introduce themselves.
- Ask people to keep video on if possible.
- Check for exercise understanding.
- When closing breakouts, attendees get 60 seconds to re-join.
- 📹 Watch Use Zoom for KCD Workshops
5. Outline & Participation
- Have a very defined outline for exercises. Example:
