The problem the users were facing here is that they were finding it difficult to navigate through the product and its different modules.
On observing the usage pattern of users using internal analytics tools and talking to regular customers, we were able to understand that there was no sense of direction for the users except for "breadcrumb" top navigation that took the users away from the current flow.
Start with designing appropriate icons for the subcategories for each module (Accounts, Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Produce).
Working on multiple iterations of menu design both on paper and on design tools. The fact that the product is built with responsive design in mind means that the navigation system that gets implemented needs to be responsive to multiple devices.
The thought process here was to design a drill-down menu but felt like it doesn't provide enough improvement over the development cost. The design at the bottom is a more flat implementation of the menu with the menu occupying the screen with a mini card that provides top-level module-info. more like a "quick info" card and when pressed on the menu opens the menu for the particular module. After a few sketches, it felt like moving in this direction might be costly and not rewarding
