Key Findings:
- Course Creation Workflow: Scott's organization creates courses by embedding LTI components from various providers. They have separate teams for content creation and instruction.
- LTI Reusability: Currently, LTI components cannot be reused across different courses. Scott would like the ability to reuse configurations for the same provider across multiple courses.
- LTI Invoicing: Scott's organization is unsure how their LTI provider charges for usage. They are invoiced per launch, but it's unclear if a launch refers to a single use of the component or a session with multiple uses.
- Course Reruns: Scott's organization uses a feature called "course rerun" to create new versions of existing courses. There is a concern that rerunning a course might not preserve the LTI component configurations (resource link IDs). This could lead to compatibility issues.
Recommendations:
- Implement a system that allows course creators to reuse LTI configurations for the same provider across different courses.
- Provide clear information about how LTI providers charge for usage (per launch definition).
- Investigate how course reruns affect LTI component configurations and ensure compatibility is maintained.
Next Steps:
- Scott will investigate how his organization is currently invoiced for LTI usage.
- The development team will clarify the distinction between tool registration and component configuration within the LMS interface.
- A follow-up meeting will be held to discuss the reusability of LTI configurations.
