LightTwist lets you record and stream video in a customizable virtual studio that you control from your browser. With LightTwist you can host guests in your virtual studio from anywhere in the world. No need to spend time and money getting together in a professional studio. And no more boring Zoom recordings. All you need is a browser and a webcam or iPhone and you can be up and running.

Background

LightTwist is a never seen before solution for stunning but affordable video production. They reached out to tonik in need for a brand identity and product design for their app. After the branding was completed we moved on to the app itself.

Challenge

The task was to design completely new thing on the market. There are plenty of video production apps but none of them create a virtual studio that you can host your show in. We had to combine interacting with 3D and 2D elements in one playful and approachable app.

Video production is considered a complex and very technical process. It requires a lot of technical knowledge and it's not that easy to get into. LightTwist is on the way to change that.

We went through multiple wireframes iterations, landed on MVP design, shipped it and launched private beta, gathered feedback and delivered revamped 2.0 version soon to be launched publicly.

The Foundations

We've established that LightTwist should let you produce and host a video production (live or prerecorded) without having an access to a professional studio. All you need is a computer with a web browser and the internet connection. The whole process should be easy as clicking a few buttons and drag&drop a couple of media assets.

From the guest perspective, what you need is an iPhone with good internet connection. To join a session in the studio you just take out your iPhone, accept an invitation in the mobile app and put your smartphone in a secure position (tripod recommended) with the rear camera facing you. All the magic will be performed in the background by LightTwist. It's as easy as joining Zoom meeting, but the outcome is much more impressive and engaging.

The architecture

The Studio consists of:

• Scenes – choosing what's displayed on the screen, changing cameras, displaying overlays, playing videos or showing photos, making changes to the Studio,
• Participants – list of people taking part in the session where you can interact with them and help them set up their audio/video settings, also where they are located in the Studio.
