- Treat each of your students with equal respect
- Normalize introducing yourself with your pronouns. Ask for and employ the proper pronouns for your student
- Learn the proper pronunciation of student names
- Support the unique abilities and experiences of each student
- Address challenging classroom moments (e.g. conflicts, micro-aggressions, offensive and alienating comments, etc.) head-on.
- Give adequate time and space to discuss the situation
- Prompt students to keep discussions focused on issues or comments, and not individuals.
- Do not attribute motives or intentions to the person behind the comment, behavior, or attitude, but acknowledge the effect it has on others
- Ask students to use "I" statements when discussing difficult issues
