Helper Duck is a Discord Bot that participants can use to request help from mentors by submitting tickets. Use Helper Duck for specific problems or bugs you may be facing, you may also use the #ask-a-mentor channel for any more general questions directed at the mentors.
All of the Helper Duck commands can be used in any channel within the HackKU 2024 Discord Server, just start typing /
and a list of possible commands will appear. Don’t worry, all messages between you and Helper Duck are private, and will not appear to anyone else in any chats!
Submit a ticket by typing the /helpme
command in any channel within the HackKU 2024 Discord Server, include your current location and a brief message explaining what you need help with.
You will receive a confirmation that your ticket was successfully submitted. This confirmation is only visible to you, and will have a Ticket ID that you can use to lookup the status of your tickets.
The mentors will have their own (private) channel where they can claim tickets. This is what your newly created ticket will look like from the mentors’ perspective, mentors will claim your tickets…
and then Helper Duck will create a private thread between you and the mentor who has claimed your ticket. This thread should primarily be used to arrange a meetup location, as it will be deleted after the ticket is closed, so don’t send anything too important here!
Once a meetup location has been arranged, you will meet with the mentor to work through your problem. Once your ticket has been resolved, the mentor will close your ticket, you don’t need to worry about doing so yourself.
Remember that mentors are there to provide assistance and help guide you through any problems you may be facing. They aren’t there to do your project for you, and they won’t necessarily have all the solutions!
