Florian’s Quick Intro
A bit of information about myself:
- I’m Florian 👋 I’ve founded GDevelop after developing the core game engine as an open-source project for many years. The idea was then still the same as now: democratise game creation through a solution that is radically faster and easier than anything else.
- I’ve been for 4 years in London, working as a software engineer at Facebook then at Google (in the Android Games team). Improving the state of gaming on Android was fun, but creating a new generation of game creators is more fun :) I’m now in Paris (the company is UK based and has a French subsidiary).
Long-term Vision
- Why has GDevelop the potential to reach unicorn status/be a billion dollar company?
- Why is the education/no-code/accessible aspect important in the vision? Could GDevelop just serve pros/semi-pros/brands?

- What about the “Roblox problem”? Why users would use GDevelop instead of Roblox (or Fortnite Creative 2.0) who has a huge player base?
- What about “metaverse” competitors like dot big bang, Mutat.se, soba.xyz, Yahaha, Core, etc…?
- What about other competitors in the “no-code game creation” space (Buildbox, Construct…)?
- What about the “graduation problem”? Will users leave to use Unity/Unreal instead of GDevelop?
Future:
- Could Roblox/other metaverse competitors move to make creation faster/remove limits/improve their reach?
- Could Unity/AAA game engines move to make creation easier, be open-source or offer integrated monetisation/social tools?
Games quality/success:
- Could you publish games made the creators? How would you get games of a quality decent enough to be hit games?
- How do you increase the success and quality of an average GDevelop game?
