Note: this is a list of recommendations for further consideration, not a final list of projects guaranteed to receive funding. It is also assembled by taking notes during a live meeting that is not recorded, so CivicLex cannot guarantee 100% accuracy. However, this is our clearest possible understanding of what will be moved to the COW on October 26.
The ARPA Parks subgroup met for the third time, to finalize their list of recommended projects to take to the COW next week. Overall, they have decided to focus the majority of their funding recommendations on requests in line with the department of Parks and Recreation and the Parks Master Plan, with a few extra projects.
Their list of proposals to move forward is still in flux, but at this point includes:
- $10 million for a new park at Cardinal Run North,
- Phase 1: park infrastructure, restrooms, and paved parking
- Phase 2: soccer facilities and additional parking
- Phase 3: paved trail, playground, park shelter
- Note: the subgroup has discussed that phases 2 and 3 are interchangeable in the order that they will happen
- $10 million various parks master plan recommendations, including:
- $1.1 million for trail improvements for Jacobson, Masterson Station, Raven Run, Gainesway, Wildwood, and Stonewall Parks
- $2.6 million for sport court renovations at Constitution, Shillito, Woodland, Mount Tabor, Marlboro, Meadowbrook, Pine meadows, and Lansdowne Merrick Parks
- $1 million for playgrounds at McConnells Trace, Woodland, Elizabeth Street, Duncan, Meadowthorpe, and Mary Todd Parks
- $1 million for building maintenance, including roofing, HVAC, and doors/windows at various facilities, possibly including Douglas, Coolavin, Oakwood, and Highland Parks.
- ~$1.8 million for aquatics system repairs at multiple city pools, plus pool feature upgrades at Southland and Tates Creek
- $1.35 million for renovating Dunbar Community center
- $1 million for an expansion of the Cardinal Valley neighborhood center
- ~$125 for improvements at Whitney Young Park
Apart from specific proposals for ARPA, the subgroup discussed a list of recommendations they would like to move forward that will not necessarily be funded by ARPA, but that they do think are important.
