Learning Goals
- Students will have a basic understanding of what energy is and how we use it every day.
- Students will grasp the basics of nonrenewable energy sources.
- Students will grasp the basics of renewable energy sources.
- Students be able to recognize the current issues each form of energy generation faces.
- Students will learn about sustainable practices around energy use.
Overview
As you saw on the previous page, each day of the week has a different topic with different learning goals. We have tried to make every day different and as interactive as possible. Below is a short summary of the tasks and deliverables for each day. They should each only take 10-30 minutes, depending on the day and age of the student.
Monday: What is Energy?
- Surveying and recording energy-using appliances in their house
- Determining which of these appliances use a high and low levels of energy to help understand their energy impact
Tuesday: Nonrenewable Energy
- Reading a short illustrated story about the four most common nonrenewable energy sources: coal, oil, and natural gas.
Wednesday: Renewable Energy
- Reading a quick description of the main kinds of renewable energy sources and how they work
- Playing a game that delves deeper into these energy sources and how their use depends on their location
Thursday: Problems
- Watching a series of short video and answering review questions about issues with each of the forms of energy generations covered over the past two days
Friday: Sustainability
