💡 We are so excited to teach your student about Earth Systems! Before we get started, here is some information about what your child is going to be doing for the week!

Learning Goals
- Students will be able to understand the concept of a system and understand its importance in a global context.
- Students will grasp the basics of the water and carbon cycles.
- Students will be able to identify the differences between Earth's layers, and will be able to understand the fundamentals of plate tectonics.
- Students will be able to define the causes and effects of ocean and air currents.
- Students will be able to analyze and identify the pattern of the El Niño phenomenon.
Overview
As you saw on the previous page, each day of the week has a different topic with different learning goals. We have tried to make every day different and as interactive as possible. Below is a short summary of the tasks and deliverables for each day. They should each only take 10-30 minutes, depending on the day and age of the student.
Monday: Introduction to Earth Systems
- Completing an online puzzle to introduce students to the concept of a system
- Watching a short YouTube video explaining how Earth acts as a system
Tuesday: Elemental Cycles
- Reading a short illustrated story of Cass the Carbon Atom and Wesley the Water Molecule which will take the reader through their journeys between Earth's systems.
Wednesday: Geological Systems
- Playing a game about Earth's structure, in which students will sort objects into Earth's various layers
- Watching a short video and playing a game about tectonic plates, in which students will learn how plates interact and the impacts of these interactions
Thursday: Wind and Ocean Patterns
- Watching a series of short video and answering review questions about ocean currents, air currents, and the great ocean conveyer.
Friday: El Niño and La Niña
