In this case study, I have described my process of designing a multipurpose ed-tech app. In this project, I built a design system and designed for edge cases while solving user needs. This app was made for the Student Technical Community — VIT Vellore.
The app is available on google play store with a 4.8 star rating! 🎉 - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.stcvit.stcapp
Student Technical Community is a team of enthusiastic students studying at VIT Vellore, driven by their passion for design and technology. They provide mentorship to new students, build projects, conduct events and spread their knowledge with their audience.
I helped them build this app that helps their audience quickly search for resources and roadmaps for any tech domain to get started.
The team consisted of 4 people; me being the solo designer along with 3 developers.
To break down the purpose of the app into simpler metrics, firstly I tried understanding the main purpose of the app. After discussing this with the board members at STC, I reached to a conclusion that the main purpose of the app is to design the fastest way to find resources and roadmaps for any tech domain. While the secondary purpose was to promote their community.
To achieve the secondary purpose, I decided to show a virtual representation of what the community does on a yearly basis. Since the community is mainly focused on spreading knowledge and building exciting projects, I decided to include them to help achieve the secondary purpose.
Me being an ex-VP - management of the community helped me immensely in validating this hypothesis.
