Intro

CRASH is a Mixed Reality (MR) game in which the player battles against the robot, and our motivation for the idea comes from age-old arcade games such as Galaga and Ikaruga. What makes this game unique is the fact that we are combining the concept of MR with Robotics, and in doing so it creates an interesting experience for the user, since the game makes use of virtual and physical components. While the areas of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed reality (MR) have received much development and attention over the past few years, combing such disciplines with an area such as robotics have not been as developed, and we think that this project will showcase how the interaction of these two disciplines can be just as important. By creating this application, we hope to not only bring back the age-old arcade games that we all love dearly, but also add in an innovative spin on the game to attract not only the older but also the younger generations. Furthermore, we are also exploring various approaches for game designs and will be brainstorming/experimenting various methods, and finally come up with our current design for the project based on functionality, time, and constrain.

Game & MR Objectives

Throughout the game, the player will engage in an engaging shoot-out where the player must survive waves of attack by the bot, and the main objective is to defeat the boss by avoiding bullets and successfully killing enemies at hand. To give a more detailed view of how the interaction between the player and game entails, below is a display of how the player engages the battles against the boss. Note as well the important components such as the bouncing throwable ball, collider, and bullet, which are all important in handling how the player can control the direction of the bullet in order to defeat the boss. As the project progresses, we will be continuously updating the design and technical details as well.
