Summative assessment:

A unit test is delivered in the last module (descriptive statistics). The purpose is to evaluate learners' overall learning and how they meet the learning outcomes at the end of the course. After completing the test, learners are required to review it with the instructor. Because this course is designed as an optional intro to statistics workshop to supplement the regular Grade 10-12 BC Curriculum mathematics, the purpose is to help learners to get started with statistics and build a foundation toward further learning. Hence, it is up to the individual schools’ math departments to define whether to assign actual scores (that count towards students' official transcripts and math grades) to the unit test and learners' participation in reflective journals and group discussions. Quantitative scores on quizzes throughout this interactive learning resource will be generated from students' self-reported quiz scores, and if these score ranges will be used to define competency, integration into official transcripts is left to individual schools to decide and is therefore out of scope for our assignment.

Formative assessment:

In each module, practice quizzes are provided for learners to practice, as well as giving immediate feedback as to whether the learner answered the question correctly or not. By doing them, learners can know their current levels of progress on a given outcome and clarify with the instructor any concerns at the time. After working through each module, learners are required to write their thoughts and restate some of the key concepts in the 'Journal', which provide opportunities for learners to ask questions and reflect on their learning. Both instructors and students would be able to access the 'Journal' and give feedback, which also enables interactions between learners.
