Follow-up to the previous APAC organisers meeting we had, (thanks to Iqbal for setting up the meeting) below is a proposal for a new concept for PyCon APAC 2021 .
It was great to be able to meet up with most of the APAC organisers and to get updated from each one of us. It was evident that COVID has disrupted event planning around the world. We received information that some organisers will continue to go online while others will either go hybrid or totally cancel this year's event.
The PSF has set up the Diversity and Inclusion Workgroup this year with the hopes of creating a more diversified and inclusive Python community around the world. I am proud to be part of this workgroup together with 19 other members from around the world including Iqbal and Cynthia too. With this goal in mind, I would like to propose a PyCon APAC with more diversified content representing APAC this year.
The traditional PyCon APAC conference has always been such where majority of the talks will usually be represented from country host of the year along with prominent keynote speakers invited.
To create a more APAC-oriented PyCon this year. We would like to invite each PyCon organiser from APAC to participate by proposing 2-3 speakers from their home country
The entire event will still be run by PyCon TH but in order to have a quality conference well-represented by PyCon APAC for other parts of the world to attend, we propose participation from country organisers in the selection of speaker
Country organiser can either invite their own selected speakers through their own contacts or setup a public CFP in their home country on the social media channels. Country organiser will decide whichever method that they find most suitable to curate their represented speakers.
