Have you ever been paralyzed by fear of speaking to others in a foreign language? Whether it is the waiter in a foreign restaurant, or your very own grandparents, talking to people in an unfamiliar tongue can be intimidating and embarrassing. With the help of Linguify, you can immerse yourself in different cultures and practice the art of conversation without the fear of ridicule all in the comfort of your own home.

<aside> 💡 Background Research: We conducted a survey with 26 participants. We found that 19/26 people found conversations with others as the most helpful method of learning a new language. We found that some of the challenges that participants faced in their current language learning methods were “not knowing why their spoken responses were wrong” and “not being to converse with people on the app”
Online websites and applications is the most popular option for learning languages, hinting at a need for an online and remote solution.
Research from the University of Arizona has shown that the authenticity and personalization of VR creates a conducive environment for language learning without the restrictions of the classroom. VR could reduce anxiety and inhibition whilst increasing engagement and motivation of student learners.
People are quite open to the use of cultural immersion as a way to learn a new language, showing that people generally do value cultural authenticity and the applicability of their newfound language skills.
What it does:
Linguify uses VR in order to **enhance language learning via real-time interactions, cultural and conversations in a remote and immersive setting
**Linguify **provides a gamified experience where learners explore an interactive world populated with NPCs and other players to provide an authentic cultural experience. Learners complete quests and tasks in order to increase their language skill level and unlock different parts of the world. The game and other users would also rate the learner on their skills and areas of improvement with constant feedback.
