Elevator Pitch

In 3-4 sentences, provide a short description of the project.

<aside> ⚡ Our app aims to provide easy communication between peers for group projects. Learning effective teamwork is essential for college and career-level collaborative work. Developing this soft skill in high school prepares students for the transition from individual-based to project-based learning.

Project Details

About the project In a paragraph for each section, write what inspired you, what your deliverable does, what you learned, how you built your project, the challenges you faced, and what’s next. Detailed bullet points are accepted.

<aside> 💡 *Background Research Project-based learning helps students develop soft skills such as communication, collaboration, perseverance, and responsibility that are essential in being prepared for the college curriculum and their future career.

What it does Making collaboration easier for students will encourage them to not dread large projects or working with others to reach a collective goal. To help strengthen these skills, an app that combines easy communication through direct messaging and calls with progress tracking of the work helps students see their achievements and motivate them to keep going. Our app focuses on peer-to-peer communication over teacher-to-student communication, which is unlike most other current educational resources.

How we built it Our group identified a target audience and potential modern needs missing from the current market. We noticed that there was a learning gap between high school and college, due to the change between mostly learning independently to learning through projects.

Challenges we ran into When we consulted mentors about our idea, one of the challenges we ran into was “how do we know the app is working?”. This question asks us to question the overall scale and success of this platform if applied a high school setting. In addition to this, another mentor prompted the question, “how can students learn to extend these skills outside the classroom?”. In an effort to address this problem, we implemented an option for students to make their own projects through “Public Projects” so they can make their own personal projects and work with new friends they might have made along the way when working in the classroom.

Accomplishments that we're proud of*

*We’re proud that we effectively collaborated and communicated on working on the research and prototype. We originally struggled on filtering what we wanted to focus on as the scope of our project was initial too broad. With this being said, we received substantial feedback from our gust judges who suggested when and where to expand upon — to help students be familiar with collaborating with one another to prepare them for college and the working field.

What we learned*

*We learned that there’s a lot of different components that define collaboration. At first, we focused primarily on the education aspect of school, but we later realized that we may want to expand more on collaborative possibilities with our app. Thus, we decided to also implement the option to connect with other students in the form of school clubs. That way, students will have the opportunity to connect with others based on personal interest rather than educational obligations.

What's next?*

In future iterations, we will continue to refine the problem space, as the scope of our project is currently broad and addresses multiple issues. We hope to better develop
