Project Details

About the project In a paragraph for each section, write what inspired you, what your deliverable does, what you learned, how you built your project, the challenges you faced, and what’s next. Detailed bullet points are accepted.

<aside> 💡 We initially thought about non-cirriculum learning opportunities such as ways of engaging K-12 but then we realized that we wanted to address the foundation of children, which usually stems from their house-holds. We did some research and realized that a vulnerable group that needed support is single mothers who often feel guilt and depression from being unable to be. So, we decided to pivot outside of learning for kids altogether and explore how we could better support single moms with raising and bonding with their children.

Our app is for single mothers who have children in the K-5th grades with a focus on addressing the many emotional needs and challenges of single mothers, such as parenting inexperience, strengthening emotional stability, and addressing a lack of quality time with their children. We provide lessons on topics such as routine setting and time management to support mothers and encourage them to reinforce their learning through activities with their child.

Challenges

Some of the challenges are finding way to seamlessly integrate our app into the busy lives of single mothers. We thought about ways to implement into single mother’s daily routines such hands-off options were mothers could listen to audio while they are commuting or doing chores.

We also want to allow mothers to customize the app based on their routine, needs, and limit push-notifications to only that time, motivating them to use the app, but making it a priority to not overwhelm.

What it does Our app begins with a check-in quiz that determines their current emotional state with their child. Afterward, the app will analyze their responses holistically and empathetically identify their struggles and suggest lessons to improve their emotional intelligence.
