Elevator Pitch

In 3-4 sentences, provide a short description of the project.

<aside> ⚡ With the world constantly evolving, technology consistently advancing, and the job market continuously changing, individuals must stay actively learning in the modern age. However, to constantly and consistently learn within the midst of their everyday lives, wether they are a full-time students who work a part time job or a full-time worker trying to make ends meet, its a struggle, especially when future career paths require different skillsets. So, how can we create a seamless and beneficial learning experience for transitioning workers whose jobs are being increasingly displaced due to the rise in automation and AI? And to that question, we introduce Grove, an incremental and self-paced learning application for learners who are seeking to transition into a different field, but lack properly allocated times for class.

:Background Research: First, we began with a mind map with the initial topics of “learning” and “modern needs”. From there, our group discussed topics and main ideas that we felt were mainly relevant to the initial prompt, and ended up doing secondary research into learning, transitional students, students that were coming back into education, blue/white collar workers, genuine learning in relation to AI in the classrooms, accessibility for disabled and non-tech savvy users, as well as who is qualified to be an educator. We then created a google survey that were sent out to mainly blue-collar workers to gain insight into their thoughts and ideas regarding automation, AI, and the modern job market.

What it does From the initial research, we created Grove. It is meant to be a self-paced, incremental, learning applications that users are able to pick up and put down when and wherever they please. The app itself gathers user information to define personal goals, set learning plans, provide soft and hard skills related to general job-hunting and the individual’s preferred future career choice.

How we built it For production, we first drafted a user flow in a notebook and translated that into a Figma user flow. Afterwards, we then created a lofi version of the application to signify general shape and body of our application. Afterwards, we began to create a hifi version to demonstrate the final feel of our application by following out style guide.

Challenges we ran into We definitely ran into time constraints and also defining who our target audience was, as before, it was too broad to actually start prototyping.

Accomplishments that we're proud of We are proud of the product because we feel strongly about providing accessible opportunities to individuals who are always seeking to learn and grow within different fields. Additionally, we were especially proud of our ideation process and being able to see the variety of fields that our work could touch and impact.

What we learned:

Combatting modern problems requires modern approaches utilizing human-centered technology. All people come from different walks of life and are accustomed to different environments. When they choose to transition to a new life path, they should have access to appropriate guidance to help them succeed.

What's next?:

It can provide better ways to connect educators and learners. It can be a platform for networking and mentorship opportunities necessary for social support and motivation. Hiring companies can collaborate with the app to create a targeted curriculum to seek employees with preferable skill sets as well as provide a concrete training path for those seeking a job in the company/field.
