<aside> 💡 *Background Research With the growing influence of social media on individuals’ perception and knowledge of global news, there also comes an important topic of media literacy. Media literacy is “the ability to critically analyze stories presented in the mass media and to determine their accuracy or credibility.”. With the growing use of social media, it is imperative to differentiate between factual news from misinformation or potential biased information. Our app, Wellverse, is meant to combat these risks and educate users on media literacy and how to better analyze/read mass information on social media.

What it does

Wellverse is a mobile app meant to educate users on media literacy through news that are published on various social media platforms – Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter), Facebook, etc. – as well as news articles.

Scanning Function Wellverse includes a scanning function where users can link posts, articles, etc. that they retrieved from social media platforms. After the news is uploaded, users can view the full article/post within the app. Wellverse will then show users related news that either have supporting or conflicting perspectives with the users’ uploaded link. This allows users to be more aware of potential biases or misinformation that may be involved in specific posts/articles they come across.

View Trending News Wellverse also includes a page of trending news that are filtered to related topics. The trending news also includes which social media platform each news was posted on. Users can click into the news article to read and see related articles/posts that either support or conflict with the information.

How we built it We used Google Forms to conduct user research and collect data from other individuals. We utilized Figma to create our lofi and hifi wireframes/prototypes. We also used Procreate for lofi-sketch

Challenges we ran into Brainstorming a mobile app Rapid Prototyping

Acomplishments that we're proud of This is our first designathon for some of us!

What we learned through this process how to assess how the need for media literacy has evolved over time.
